When booking a photographer for your wedding day one of the biggest questions you’ll have to ask yourself is whether you want a second photographer or not. While it may be tempting to just go with the one photographer there are a ton of positives to having another. While not every wedding will need a second photographer, the benefits of having one should make you consider it. What are those benefits? I’m glad you asked, let’s go through them!
Probably the most straight forward reason as to why having a second photographer is a great idea. Being able to capture different angles, perspectives and reactions from your favorite moments of your wedding day is huge. Having two photographers for something like your first look means you get to capture both of your reactions at the same time. You’ll have photos of your guests’ reactions as you walk down the aisle and when you say “I do.”
Now you might be thinking if two different photographers are photographing my wedding aren’t the photos going to look different? The great thing about the second photographer is they don’t do any of the editing. This means that your main photographer will edit all the photos in their style and you’ll end up with a wedding album that looks beautiful and cohesive and also has a ton more memories for you to look back on.
For those who aren’t morning people or would like to enjoy their morning a bit before the wedding festivities start, definitely consider having a second photographer. With only one photographer you have two options. Either you start earlier in the morning and have your photographer rush between locations to get both parties getting ready or you sacrifice one party’s getting ready photos altogether. Having two photographers means that you can have a photographer at each location so you don’t miss any of these special moments as your wedding day gets started.
It’s SO helpful to have extra hands on deck when it comes to organizing things like family photos or wedding party photos. It can be a challenge to get everyone where they need to be, keep everyone focused and in position, and even document the photo without someone blinking. Having a second photographer to help with all of this is a huge plus for any wedding day.
With a second photographer at your wedding, you’re going to end up with a LOT more candid photos. You’ll be able to capture reactions to moments like your first dance, when you share your first kiss together, and a whole variety of other photos throughout the day. There are so many moments and emotions that go into a wedding day, not only for you but everyone around you. Having a second photographer there to capture these moments means you get to relive them all whenever you look through your wedding album. This is seriously such a great option for couples whose friends and family mean the world to them.
Having all of your favorite people all in one place to celebrate you and your love for one another is something that you really only experience at your wedding. That’s why capturing all of their emotions and reactions from your day is so important. You’ll love being able to look back at your photos and relive your wedding day exactly how it happened. Both your moments and your friends and family’s as well!
Having a second photographer on your wedding day not only makes my day so much easier, but it also makes your day a lot easier too. With a second photographer, we will end up spending about half the time we normally would on wedding party photos. A second photographer gives you much more flexibility on when you’re able to put on your wedding gear, AND I know I’ve already mentioned this before, but they make it so much easier to get family photos done in a timely and orderly manner. In turn, you get more time to relax with your family and friends. You don’t have to spend as much time in your wedding gear, and you get to spend more time at the party once all is said and done!
Not to brag too much but us photographers are pretty cool people. We get to capture all of your favorite moments throughout your wedding day AND be your biggest hype crew while doing it. The great thing about photographers is that we usually have some photographer friends that we love to work with as well. If you have a photographer that you’re pretty set on booking, you love them, their style, and their personality, ask them if they have any recommendations for a second photographer. Chances are they’ll have a few they can recommend and reach out to that you’ll love working with. Your wedding day is such an exciting time in your life and when it comes to a hype crew having a second photographer is only going to add to the energy and the fun!
There are A LOT of reasons why having a second wedding photographer might be a great idea for you. While it’s not true for every wedding you should definitely consider it for yours. Talk over your wedding plans with your partner and once you have an idea on what your day will look like, talk about whether you think you need a second photographer or not. If you already have a photographer booked for your wedding you can ask their opinion as well. This is likely your first wedding so having someone with experience in the industry is a great resource that you should use.
